Jabal el Cheikh

In 2005, I went hiking all the way up to the second highest mountain in Lebanon. We started on 6 August at 3:30 a.m. from an altitude of 2300m where we had spent the night "à la belle étoile", to an altitude of 2816m. We reached the summit at daybreak to witness the first sun rays lighting up just the pinpoint of the peak. Pictures from up there are the ones that seem as if they were taken from an airplane. Enjoy the flight!! Up there on the mountain's peak: we had an open-air mass which people from various religions (Christians, both Greek Orthodox and Catholics, Druze and Chiites) were present at. We looked down at three countries: Lebanon, Israel and Syria. The United Nations special forces are stationed up there. They have placed red marks on the ground to help people avoid venturing into some minefield. We later learnt that the whole mountain was crammed with mines. Suspense for our way back downhill !!
